Cycling
The Lower Chattahoochee region provides quality
cycling opportunities for both routine travel and recreation. Within
Columbus, the
Riverwalk provides an excellent shared-use facility along the
Chattahoochee River and connects several area attractions. On the other
side of the Riverwalk you can also ride along the
Trail
of Tears (TOT) which provides and exciting adventure for those
interested in mountain biking. For information on more riding routes or
mountain biking trails visit the
Columbus Cycling Club. In-town
routes allow commuting possibilities. Outside the city, rural highways
lead through scenic countryside, from the rugged hills in the north to
gently rolling farmland and forestland in the south. These generally
lightly traveled highways and country roads also connect a variety of parks,
natural areas, and historic sites within the region. Off-road cycling
is also available. Click on the maps to the left to explore the region
and find state bicycle routes and other cycling routes, as well as the
amenities to be found along the way.
Because the area is well-suited for cycling
activities, our region and surrounding communities host numerous events and
rides, so be sure to check the calendar for upcoming activities. |
