Join Sumter Cycling, the River Valley Regional Commission, Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, and Andersonville National Historic Site for the Prison to Peanuts Bicycle Adventure.

We encourage riders of all levels and skills to join us on this amazing opportunity to visit beautiful sites in Sumter County, Georgia, and visit Americus, Andersonville and Plains by bicycle. No need for horse-power, just your-power!

The ride will begin at Rees Park (409 Elm Avenue) in Americus. The annual Arts in the Park will be taking place that day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. so you will have the opportunity to see local artists at work and enjoy live entertainment. Food will be available at the event and you will receive a meal voucher as part of your bicycle ride registration.

Route Information

Four route options are available: 12, 34, 65 and 105 miles. Jimmy Carter National Historic Site will be a rest stop on all the routes except the 12-mile Americus loop. Andersonville National Historic Site will be on the 65- and 105-mile routes.

Training Rides

Sumter Cycling will offer a series of training rides to help people prepare for the Prison the Peanuts ride. Check the

Sumter Cycling Facebook page for training ride details.


Event Check-In and Start Times

On-site registration and check-in will begin at 6:30 a.m. for the century riders Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start time for your ride to register and check in. Ride times are as follows:


Century: 7 a.m.

65-mile and 34-mile: 8 a.m.

12-mile: 11 a.m.



12-mile: $15 before April 10 and $20 after April 10.

All other routes: $35 before April 10 and $45 after April 10.

Children under 10 ride free.

Onsite registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. for the century ride. Please arrive at least 30-minutes prior to your ride start time.


Riders will receive a free T-shirt, SWAG bag, snacks, and a meal voucher.


Ride and Community Information

Participants are asked to sign an event waiver on the morning of the ride. There will be SAG stops (Support and Gear) with water, fruit, and snacks. There will be a support vehicle with a limited supply of water and snacks for emergencies and gear for basic mechanical issues and first aid needs.

This is a family-friendly event. Whether fast or slow, everyone is welcome to ride at their own pace. All participants are required to wear a helmet.

This ride is brought to you by Sumter Cycling, the River Valley Regional Commission, the National Park Service, and the City of Americus.

Bring your bicycle, your family and friends, and make plans to stay in Sumter County throughout the weekend and participate in this unique event.
